We're off to Showshoe, WV for a long weekend of skiing and fun! Stay stylish while I'm offline :).  Note:  This is a picture of my grandparents in Atlantic City circa 1956.

fab finds...v-day edition

Although the hubby and I choose not to recognize the made up holiday that falls on February 14th, I have to at least give it some love (I mean that's what the day is all about, right?).  So here are some of my fab finds...v-day edition.

more bathroom makeover details

As a follow up to yesterday's post, here are some more bathroom details.  Our vessel sink and faucet are on order and the marble is in the process of being cut.  Stay posted for the reveal :)!

marble miracle!

After scoring a slab of marble today (how does that even happen?!?), a bathroom makeover quickly moved up to the top of our to-do list.  We're going to stick with the current cabinet but go with a vessel sink (over-the-counter) to give it some additional height.  We'll also probably paint the cabinet (now white) a gray of some sort.  Here's some of my Houzz inpsiration (links directly below picture).

office space inspiration

As mentioned in yesterday's post, I'm helping a friend style a few rooms in her house.  Her office is one of the first rooms you see when you come through her front door and is very spacious.  When she sent me the pictures, I immediately envisioned the addition of a seating area.  I recommended these velvet chairs from TJ Maxx (probably can be found at HomeGoods too), but then learned she has two Hickory Chair club chairs (that's a mouth full) that she can recover (I proposed a neutral fabric so that she can quickly change the look and feel of the room if wanted and use them elsewhere too).  Her pop of color will be added in using throw pillows, lamps, and/or a cool office chair (items that are easy to change). I've shown green here but orange will probably make more sense for her space which will pull in nicely from her living area and compliment the already painted grayish walls.  I'm definitely excited about the potential of this office space!  P.S.  Somebody please scoop up these velvet chairs!  I think they were $150 each.

master bedroom inspiration board

This weekend I had so much fun helping a friend make some design plans for a few rooms in her house; mainly her master bedroom, office, and kitchen.  She sent me some pictures in advance, and I came up with a couple inspiration boards for us to use as a starting point. This is the style board for the master.  The bed in the picture was actually built by her husband (impressive huh?!) and a great focal point in the room!  It has a rustic vibe to it so introducing some more feminine aspects, such as mirrors, provides a great contrast.  We ventured out to HomeGoods (Dean & Deluca first....YUM!) and found this and a couple round mirrors on clearance.  Score!!  Lamps, prints, and curtains are still on the list, but I'd say it was a successful little Saturday.

lantern tease

While sourcing lights, I found and fell in love with this lantern and knew immediately that I just had to have it. The good news is that I have the perfect spot for it, BUT I'm holding out on additional deets until it's up and shining.  So, until then....where would you put this beauty?!  Stay tuned for the reveal!  Eeeek!  So excited :).

lighting ideas for the inlaws

In preparation to put their house on the market this spring (and move closer to us!), my inlaws are looking to make some minor updates/improvements.  One relatively low cost update that can make a big difference, is lighting.  Here are some ideas specific to the style of their home.  I'm absolutely loving that lantern :).

DIY dining chairs upgrade

Gray and I inherited a couple lovely dining chairs from his grandmother ("Grandmother" or Dixie)that were originally Dixie's mother's.  Clear as mud?  Ok, well in short, they're old, and a makeover was in need.  Here's the before:

After a couple trips to fabric stores on the hunt for something that would pull in the red/pink/rose from my lamps and add a pop a color to the dining room...

...I decided to use some fabric I had left over from my living room pillows...

So, after removing the old fabric and finding this...

...we purchased some new plywood, foam, and cotton batting and cut it to size.

And then, after a little staple action.....TA-DA!  Here's the finished product...

Much better!

dining room lighting reveal!

A couple months ago, if you remember, I posted about our need for dining room lighting (here).  Of all the choices, my favorite was #4 (although I would have preferred a bit larger).  I absolutely loved the idea of crystal to fancy up the rustic space.  But THEN...I found this chandelier while doing some consignment shopping....

...and FELL IN LOVE! Crystal PLUS brass PLUS antique; exactly what I pictured in the space (still a little small, but otherwise perfect)!  So, needless to say, I brought it home! Long-term, it may end up in the foyer, but for now, I'm enjoying it's beauty from the dining room.  On a side note, #4 will not be passed up; it's going in the office :).

kitchen update!

Obvious by my multiple posts on painting our kitchen (here and here and here), I was kinda obsessed with the idea.  So, thanks to "hostess motivation" it's D.O.N.E...DONE!  The space is so much brighter (I love farrow & ball hardwick white) and flows much more nicely with the rest of our home and decor.  The bar stools are here (and are awesome!), but we're still waiting on our oushak rug so more pics to come.

happy weekend/happy doors (part II)

Last month I posted about painting the exterior of our front door (here).  Well, I still haven't done it because I'm not convinced on color.  I'm worried that as soon as I do it, I'll want to paint the house and shutters too, so for now, we're sticking with black :).  BUT, I did tackle the interior of the door, and I love it!  Just walking into the living room makes me happy!  I landed on Farrow & Ball oval room blue which I had color matched in a Valspar Signature paint.  It took me all of about an hour and $20 in paint and supplies!  Not bad for a makeover that makes a big difference!  Check out my inspiration and finished product below.
