schoooool's OUT for snoooo-ow!

One of the greatest things about living in NC is the weather!  We have four defined seasons and during the winter months we see snow only a couple times, if that.  So, when it does snow, it's a BIG deal!  Grocery stores run out of milk and bread, school's shut down, and snow angels and snow cream are made.  Well, our annual "snow storm" (i.e., 2 inches) made it's appearance last night, and today was a celebration :)!  P.S.  I'm not sure why I look so tired; I'll blame it on the bright snow (hey, my eyes aren't used to it)!

kitchen design sneak peek

I'm so excited to reveal our kitchen redesign! So excited in fact, I'm probably going to have to start sharing before it's completely done (I'm so bad with surprises) :).  We're starting with paint, bar stools, and a new rug.  An updated backsplash will come down the road.  This style board represents actual selections!  Stay tuned for before and after pics.

hostess motivation

In preparation for my father-in-law's retirement/birthday party at our home next weekend (as in this coming weekend), we've been busy putting some last minute touches on our house.  I love how entertaining forces you to do those things you've been putting off :).  So, what have we been doing?!?  Painting doors, hiding toys, and hanging mirrors!!  I'm tempted to start painting the kitchen, but we shall see :).

color obsessed

I've been loving all the color the last few seasons!  It's amazing what it will do for your mood.  I know there are many out there who don't think they can do color, but I have to diagree.  Color is for EVERYONE... and that includes YOU!  If you're still not convinced, start small.  Try a necklace, a belt, or a great pair of bold shoes.  You'll be surprised at how versatile these items are.  I wear my bold pumps and belts more than I wear my neutral ones.  So, try it!  Once you realize how fabulous and confident you feel, you'll quickly be eyeing more colorful pieces.

mad for maxis

Tis' the season to start evaulating your Spring wardwobe and make your must-have/want list.  If you don't own a maxi dress or skirt, you should definitely have one on your list. Maxis are a must have!  They're so comfy, so versatile, so simple, and oh so cute.  Here are some of my favorites that are currently out there for you to scoop up :).  Enjoy your weekend!  xoxo

big boy room styleboard

As I had mentioned in a previous post, I've been thinking about our big boy's room and really love the idea of covering one wall with a faux wood either using wallpaper or laminate strips.  Here's what I'm picturing!  What do you think?

consignment shopping = winning

One of my most favorite things to do is to grab a big ol' cup-a-joe and stroll consignment stores!  There's something about the mystery of what you'll find that I just love.  Check out these beauties from a couple recent trips to Piccolo and Sleepy Poet!  I brought home the chandelier at the bottom left, the vintage octogon mirror, and the down pillows.  The rest had to stay, but I know some lucky shopper will scoop these up in no time.  Especially the super comfy lime green Vanguard chair that was a score for only $120!!

fab finds

Happy weekend friends!!  Check out these fab finds from the week.  I'd love to use the stikwood (or something similar) on a wall in Avett's room to give it a more rustic look.  What do you think?  I see a style board coming :).

Sunroom/"Man Cave" Update & Color Scheme

We made some progress in the sun room/"man cave" this weekend!  We purchased  a new grey sofa and natural rug and did some rearranging of the exising furniture (i.e., love seat and leather chair).    It's beginning to feel much more cozy with the additional seating and warmth of the rug which I'm sure the hubby appreciates :).  We still have some work to do, such as throw pillows, a coffee table, and recovering the love seat, but it's coming along.  Here are some of my initial thoughts on the color scheme. Which do you prefer?!  Blue or yellow??

Office Design Sneak Peek

I'm in the process of designing our office space and am so excited to share my digital style board with you.  For this shared space, I wanted to do a little something different from our "norm".  I tend to select more traditional pieces, but for this space, wanted a clean and refreshing vibe.  What better way to do that than to throw in some contemporary aspects, right?!  In order to ensure the space complimented the rest of our home, I added in some traditional pieces with the lighting and the curtains and am loving the elegancy and crispness of it. I'm also thrilled to finally have the opportunity to use chalkboard paint :).  What do you think?  What are your thoughts on mixing contemporary with traditional?!   Stay-tuned for the big reveal!

Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year!  We had a great NYE ringing in the new year with old friends and then a wonderful new year's day with new friends in our new town.  Both involved delicious food (NYE:  pork chops, parmesan roasted broccoli, and grits || New Year's Day:  slow roasted pork, collard greens, and black-eyed peas), great drinks, and wonderful memories. We couldn't have asked for a better way to say goodbye to last year and hello to the new.  I'm so looking forward to 2014; a new year to focus more on what I'm passionate about and to continue to strive to be better in all that I do. What are you looking forward to about a fresh year, a clean slate?!?

As for my NYE outfit choice, I went for a comfy/cozy yet festive style with a flannel top and tulle skirt.  I'm all about finding deals so both items were purchased on Poshmark which is my go-to for great finds at great prices.  The Poshmark app is a perfect (and easy) way to recycle your closet and keep things fresh without breaking the bank :).  A win/win, right?!  So what did you wear to ring in the new year?! Something sparkly or just your jammies :)?
